When Adventure Called Again - The call of adventure has always stirred the spirit of Public Bank Seri Manjung’s dynamic branch manager, Ching Neng Bin — affectionately known among friends and colleagues as the “Marlboro Man.” Ever since capturing the prestigious Great American West Adventure title in 1994, his name had become synonymous with boldness, resilience, and an unquenchable thirst for the outdoors. Yet true adventurers never rest on past triumphs. In 1995, the winds of excitement beckoned once more — this time toward the shimmering waters of Pulau Sembilan for a thrilling Fishing Safari.
Set against the vast blue horizon of the Straits of Malacca, the Pulau Sembilan Fishing Safari drew an impressive crowd of sea-bound enthusiasts. Nearly four hundred adventure-loving individuals competed in the deep-sea fishing category, while another 70 spirited teams, each comprising three to four determined members, battled it out in the trawling division. The atmosphere was electric — engines roaring at dawn, fishing lines cast with hopeful anticipation, and camaraderie forged under the tropical sun.

For Ching Neng Bin, this was more than just a competition. It was another chapter in a life defined by courage and challenge — exchanging the rugged landscapes of the American West for the unpredictable rhythm of the open sea. Among fellow adventurers, he stood not only as a banker by profession, but as a symbol of daring spirit and sporting fellowship.
The 1995 Pulau Sembilan Fishing Safari was not merely about the size of the catch, but about the size of one’s heart for adventure. And once again, when the ocean called, the Marlboro Man answered.

Though the thought of reclining beneath the shaded canopy of a fishing boat — gently lulled by the soothing, rhythmic rocking of the waves, with a warm sea breeze brushing across sun-tanned faces — may sound irresistibly inviting to many city dwellers accustomed to the rigid skyline of the concrete jungle, few would willingly rise before dawn to seek such an adventure. At six o’clock in the morning, while most urbanites were still wrapped in slumber, the true adventurers were already steering toward the open sea.
For Ching Neng Bin, ignoring the call was never an option.
From the early glow of sunrise until four o’clock in the afternoon, he endured nine steadfast hours at sea, beneath a blazing tropical sun at its blistering peak. The tranquil motion of the waves offered little rest, for deep-sea fishing demands patience, stamina, and unwavering focus. Lines were cast and recast, hopes rising with every subtle tug beneath the surface.
By day’s end, perseverance bore fruit. Ching and his team hauled in an impressive 15 kilograms of catch, a reward earned through teamwork and determination. Among his prized catches was a magnificent 3.46-kilogram barracuda — sleek, powerful, and fiercely fought. In a twist of sporting fate, it fell a mere four grams short of securing the consolation prize — a margin so slender it would be remembered long after the competition ended.
Yet for the Marlboro Man of Seri Manjung, victory was never measured solely by trophies. It was measured in endurance under the sun, in the thrill of the strike, and in the quiet satisfaction of answering adventure’s call once more.

Though no prizes were claimed under the trawling category, the rewards of the day were far greater than trophies or titles. To spend ten enduring hours upon the wide-open sea — where moods shift from serene calm to restless swells without warning — is to witness nature in its raw and untamed splendor. It is an experience that cannot be replicated on land, nor fully described in words.
For Ching Neng Bin, the true prize lay in the challenge itself: the salt in the air, the strength of the sun overhead, the thrill of each strike beneath the waves, and the camaraderie shared among fellow adventurers. These are the treasures that linger long after the boats return to shore.
And so, the Marlboro Man of Seri Manjung has once again added another chapter to his growing treasury of adventure tales — stories to be told on quiet rainy days, when the sea seems distant and calm.
Until, of course, the winds shift… and another adventure calls his name once more.
1995 – Year 23rd: Transferred to Seri Manjung as Branch Manager
A New Chapter of Leadership and Legacy - The 23rd year of service marked not merely the passage of time, but a defining milestone in a distinguished banking career. In 1995, Ching Neng Bin took on a new challenge — his transfer to Public Bank Seri Manjung as Branch Manager. It was more than a change of address; it was the beginning of a new chapter of stewardship, responsibility, and community leadership.
Seri Manjung, then a growing township with vast potential, required vision, discipline, and steady hands at the helm. With years of experience forged through dedication and performance, Ching brought with him not only professional expertise but also the spirit of determination that had carried him through countless adventures — on land and at sea.
Under his guidance, the branch stood poised for growth, anchored in Public Bank’s enduring principles of prudence, service excellence, and customer trust. As with every transfer in his career, this was not simply a relocation — it was an opportunity to build, to strengthen, and to leave a lasting imprint.
Thus, Year 23 was not just another year of service. It was a reaffirmation that leadership is both a duty and an adventure — and in Seri Manjung, a new legacy was ready to unfold.
