1999 – Seri Manjung Branch Trip to Hatyai, Thailand πΉπ

In 1999, the staff of Public Bank Berhad, Seri Manjung Branch, embarked on a memorable overseas trip to Hat Yai, Thailand, organised through Cosmic Tour Sdn Bhd, Sitiawan. It was a well-deserved break from the busy banking routine — a time to relax, bond, and create lasting memories together.
The journey across the border was filled with excitement and anticipation. For many, it was not just a holiday, but a meaningful opportunity to strengthen teamwork outside the office environment. Laughter filled the bus rides, and friendships grew stronger with every shared meal and sightseeing stop.
In Hat Yai, the group explored vibrant markets, enjoyed authentic Thai cuisine, and experienced the warm hospitality of southern Thailand. From shopping adventures to local delicacies, every moment added colour to the trip.
Beyond sightseeing, the excursion reflected the strong camaraderie within the Seri Manjung team. It was a reminder that success at work is built not only on performance, but also on unity and mutual support.

Wawasan Third Quarter 1999
He likes camping, jungle tracking, hunting, repelling, rock climbing, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, what else? Off-road driving, dirt biking, white-water rafting, horseback riding.... one of the lucky ten Malaysians who participated in the USA Marlboro Adventure Team in 1994. Guest who?
Joined the Bank in 1973 based at Penang branch, Mr Ching Neng Bin is currently our Seri Manjung branch manager. Married with two sons, Mr. Ching started his adventurous life when Public Bank sponsored him to Outward Bound School, Lumut in 1975.
"Having gone through the school with a merit award gave me the spirit of adventure. since then I have been following the school's motto - To Serve, To Strive And Not To Yield." said Mr Ching. With that spirit he formed the Penang Adventurers' Club together with two friends on 24 April 1976. The objectives of the club are to develop self-reliance and character through facing physical challenge and to promote outdoor adventurous activities.
When asked about his favorite activity currently, Mr. Ching replied, "Jungle tracking. As it does not require much planning and the other reason is that it gives you good relaxation out there in the green jungle."
"I encountered my frightening experience when I was on wild-bore hunting trip seven years ago somewhere at Maxwell Hill, Taiping. A friend and I were lost in the hill and had to sleep in the jungle for the night. We suddenly had this 'do or die' experience and we thought we might have to take many days to get out of the jungle with no food or water. We were so tired that we left everything behind except our shot-gun." replied Mr. Ching when asked about his frightening experience during his adventurous trips. They came out the jungle the next evening totally exhausted after bashing though the thick jungle and found out that they were just miles away from where they started.
Every adventurous man will have his own ultimate dream to fulfill. Mr. Ching is no different. His ultimate dream was successfully fulfilled in 1994 when he joined the Marlboro Adventure Team to USA. The participants had to tackle some of the toughest and the most spectacular stretches of white water and rock walls, deserts and trails, 2,400 miles trek through the USA.
The contest presented by Marlboro World of Sports was established in Germany in 1984. It made its debut in the USA in 1992. The USA have since become the permanent location for the ten-day adventure trip.
"The adventure trip which covered four outdoor sports, namely off-road driving, dirt biking, white-water rafting and horseback riding offers those who love the outdoor activities a unique experience in one of the most fascinating places in the world." said Mr. Ching with a sense of achievement.
Other interesting adventures by Mr. Ching includes scaling the Gunung Tahan in 1985, the Penang Island Walk in 1986, one of the trial finalists in the Malaysian Camel Trophy '87 (1,000 miles of mysterious Madagascar) and his Grand Canyon experience in 1994. What an extraordinary branch manager we have, a man of adventure based in Seri Manjung.
